Oregon Youth Baseball December 2020 Update

Hello Oregon Youth Baseball Families:

The Oregon Youth Baseball board is continuing to meet monthly to plan and prepare as though we will have a 2021 season recognizing that it may not be "baseball as usual" and we wanted to prepare everyone for the likely possibility that Oregon Youth Baseball can and most likely will look significantly different in years past based on local regulations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, field scheduling and availability, practices, games, etc. Our ask is that each player and family be open to being flexible next summer as we navigate through what we expect will be a successful 2021 baseball campaign. At this time, Oregon Youth Baseball has created a Return to Play committee that is creating a plan of action for our players and coaches to practice and play safely and successfully. There will be guidelines that everyone will have to abide by to ensure the health and safety of our members in order to complete the 2021 season in a successful manner.

Currently, we are planning to open registration in late January or early February. We need to do this so that we can get a general idea of how many kids will be playing baseball this summer so that we can hit the ground running as soon as possible by having teams divided, equipment ordered, and practices and games scheduled to ensure as much social distancing as possible.

Oregon Youth Baseball has tentatively set the following tournament dates for 2021:

9U, 10U, and 14U will be held June 25-27.

11U, 12U, and 13U will be held July 16-18.

Tryouts for 2021 travel teams have tentatively been set for the weekend of April 10 & 11.

Lastly, last night, the Oregon Youth Baseball board voted to allow players at all age levels the use of USSSA bats if they choose to use them in practices, games, and tournaments beginning in the 2021 season. USA bats are still allowed and can be used at anytime as well. This decision was made as many of our teams play in leagues and tournament games where these bats are allowed and can put our teams at a significant disadvantage in a competitive environment.

Please look for more updates to come your way in the coming weeks. We are very excited as we continue to plan for the 2021 season.
